Whichever straightener you choose to buy, please make sure that it is fully ceramic. Otherwise it is a huge risk of damaging your hair in the long run, and wasting your money.

How curly is your hair? if it looks like its been permed, best chance is to chemically straighten your hair. Or else just invest in a good ceramic straightener. The best one i know of is the Chi which goes for around $100. Always ceramic, gold or plain metal plated straighteners are more damaging to your hair.

Use the Maxiglide by Maxius if you want to straighten it. It's about 80 or 90 dollars. The best thing about it, is that u don't need to blow dry your hair straight before you use this iron. you just let your hair dry naturally and then comb out sections to prevent snagging and glide it through your hair. Seriously it's the best.

I agree with the maxiglide. You can get it on QVC. I personally have this item. It is about$80. I do not have wavy hair, my hair is very kinky and curly. When I use the maxiglide, it is pin straight and very soft. You can use it 2 ways. One is with just the straightner and one attachment is comb like. If your hair is very curly, like mine, I suggest that you use the comb attachment. I love mine. From wash to finish (if you dry your hair), it takes about 30 min. And no, you do not have to try to dry your hair straight. Just let it go. You will love the results!!!!
