my boyfriend has really curly hair and its kind of long, and he's getting it cut short. what would you tell a hair stylist to do with it, if you didn't want them to completely butcher it by just telling them "I want it shorter"? any thoughts hair stylists?

Close at the nape and around the ears, tapering longer up the sides to the crown, maybe 4" long, depending on how much length he loses from wet to dry and how much you want on top to run your fingers through. :)
Use moisturizing pomade or sculpting lotion to keep it from becoming a big POOF on top ala Cosmo Kramer.
Don't use styling products with alcohol, as they will dry the hair and give him split ends
